While Congress continues negotiations to end the shutdown of the federal government that effectively began at midnight, 10th District Congressional candidate Chalis Montgomery said Democrats in Congress must hold the line on a fix for DREAMers.
"Just hours before the federal government shutdown last night, I was rallying for immigrants' rights at Athens City Hall," said Montgomery, who spoke at the rally. "The GOP had months to pass a clean DACA bill, just as they've had months to appropriate new funds for CHIP. Instead, in this short-term fix, the GOP has pitted the two groups against each other. We must not let this stand."
Montgomery said the solution is to make sure that the GOP and the president pass a bipartisan budget that will end the shutdown, fund our military, restore CHIP and end this impasse for our DREAMers.
"It's time to stop this dysfunction and actually govern," Montgomery said. "It's what the American people deserve."
