ATHENS, GEORGIA—Today, State Rep. Jonathan Wallace (GA-119) announced that he is endorsing Chalis Montgomery for U.S. Congress in Georgia’s 10th District.
Wallace, a Democrat from Watkinsville, was elected to the Georgia State House after winning 57 percent of the vote and defeating three Republican challengers in a special election last November, flipping a seat that Democrats had not contested for years. Wallace’s District 119 comprises parts of Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties and resides within Georgia’s 10th Congressional District.
Montgomery and Wallace are scheduled to appear together on Earth Day for a rally at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Montgomery Campaign office (160 Tracy Street, Athens, Georgia). Montgomery will outline her plan to bring green energy jobs to Georgia. The event is open to the public and the press.
In endorsing Montgomery, Wallace said the 10th District of Georgia needs someone who will fight for healthcare for all, smart job growth, civil rights and civil liberties, education funding and common-sense gun laws.
"We need someone who won't leave parts of our district behind. Chalis Montgomery will be that voice for all of us in Congress," Wallace said. "This may be the most critical midterm election we've faced in our lifetime, and I believe Chalis is the right candidate for this moment, and for our district. Her leadership and courage inspired me to run for office for the first time, and I am delighted to support her."
“I’m so grateful and honored to have Jonathan’s support in what will be a key battle in November,” Montgomery said. “Our campaign is about coming together with a common purpose to stand up for all Georgians. Together with leaders like Jonathan, we can make real change.”
